didn't work.

Not surprisingly, the no eating plan didn't work, not even through that day. But I decided that making the decision not to eat ignored the underlying issue of making ethical food choices. Instead, I decided that for a month I would stop eating processed foods. I live on a college campus, which adds to the difficulty of this challenge, but I still think it is doable. I think that avoiding processed foods will reduce my carbon footprint, and I will be supporting more local agriculture. One caveat to the rule, is that I will eat food that is processed, on a small scale, within a 150 mile radius.

At this point, it has been almost a week...At weeks end I'll give a recap.

how this started

Today I decided to stop eating.

Believe me, I like food...a lot. This wasn't meant as a weight loss mission. It was just that after reading "The Jungle" and articles on the food industry and seeing "King Corn", "Supersize Me", watching "Food Inc." put me over the edge. It seems like the decision to eat anything is wracked with political, economic and social implications.

...I made that decision about 5 hours ago, and I am beginning to realize that it is not a very feasible one. Instead, I am going to try to eat ethically. What does that mean? I don't really know, but I'm going to try and find out.
